Chris O'Brian's Profile Picture

Hello!

My name is Chris O'Brian, and I am an experienced software engineer and web developer who's currently focused on C/C++ and Go software development for embedded Linux platforms as a full-time Design & Development Software Engineer at Lutron Electronics. Outside of the tech world, I also have a strong interest in automotive restoration and homeimrpvoement for when the screens get to be too much.

It's my hope that you, whoever you are, can use this website to learn a little more about me and what I enjoy doing. The Projects page describes what I have been and what I am currently up to outside of work, and the Resume tab provides a comprehensive summary of my professional and academic experiences. You can also just keep reading below to learn more about who I am!

About Me

Born and raised in Princeton, NJ, I am the oldest of 4 fiarly sarcastic but loving siblings; I absolutely wouldn't be where I am today if it weren't for the support of my family. In addition, I owe a lot to my education, which started at Princeton Montessori School for my elemenatry and middle school years, continued at Solebury School for high school, and finished with completing my undergraduate studies at Cornell University's College of Engineering. All of these factors contributed to who I am today!

My history as a software and web developer extends as far back as early high school, when I developed an Arduino-based serial protocol converter for controlling automated theater lights. Fast-forwarding a few years to my freshmen year at Cornell, I was up late at night developing a web-based scheduling tool when I decided that I'd major in Computer Science and pursue a career in software development. This was -- and still is -- my passion, and I am continuously searching for new ways to expand upon my skills and learn more about the world of software development.

Currently, as I said, I work as am embedded software engineer for Lutron Electronics - a position at which I wear many hats, ranging from designing and debugging software to leading and managing a team when the need arises. This is just one aspect of my life, however. In my free time, I enjoy working on my cars and bikes as well as completing various improvement projects on the ~175-year-old farmhouse my wife and I purchased recently. I'm also an avid guitarist and enjoy reading science fiction.
